So my next mod is going to be a portable nes console made from the NOAC - NES on a chip.

ive already got the NOAC, and i have just bought a 5" lcd screen from ebay so it's going to be a rather large handheld console! ill post more details as i progress through the modification so check back for updates and pics!

well the screen FINALLY got here yesterday. its a great size for a portable system!

now i just have to try and make things fit... hmm thats the tricky part.

I wish i had one of those plastic mould / cutting machines that ben heck does, it would make things soo much easier!

ill let you know how things go.

I have done a bit of experimenting with the screen today, i found that it draws about 750mA of current in normal use. I then tested it with the backlight off and it only draws 200mA of current! thats a huge saving of 550mA!!!!

so im going to try and modify the backlight and use white LED's in place of the old power hungry light. So ill see how it goes, after all, it is a portable system running on batteries...

Okay ive been doing some more work on my mod this week.

i found out before that the original backlighting drew 550mA of current (which is HUGE if im going to run it off batteries!)

so ive experimented with using bright white 3mm leds to get a good backlighting. Ive ended up using four leds connected in parallel, and then a 10ohm series resistor to limit the current a little bit.

it ended up working quite well (not as bright as the original but still very useable)

and the total current draw comes to only 150mA (a saving of 400mA)

so im pretty happy with it, heres some pics of the progress:

heres the lcd screen

The screen opened up

Heres the opened backlighting

the 3mm leds installed

Just Testing!!! (note, there arent normally lines in the screen - its just the camera!

Power connected
