Don't get me wrong, Ike, I love the C64! It was my first games machine but I've also come to love the Speccy too, that's all. I'll just conclude this little unwinnable debate by saying that as a retro gamer, I'm sure you've heard the old addage that graphics do not make a game and that playability is what matters. Otherwise we'd all be playing Playstation 3 and nothing else! And yes, everyone has their favourite machines but I suppose I'm a bit of a fan just about all of them as every individual machine has its own pros and cons. I can't ever stick to one! If you're going to the con', Ike, have a go on the ZX Spectrum that I'm bringing, I may convert you yet!

He He Dan, well at the moment i'm downloading the complete romset for the speccy. I'll play through a few games that I know from the c64 like Jet set willy. Is Monty on the run on the Speccy? Recommend me a few games and I'll tell you what I think. Oh and that thing you said about the Ps3, well i wouldn't waste my time on that piece of $h!t I prefer the Xbox 360 anyday. It has the lastest games and also Xbox Live Arcade(been playing Fatal Fury online)I'm sure we can talk about the Speccy at the convention. OK now the countdown.

79- Gyruss

Yeah! I remember playing Gyruss for hours as a kid. Did you ever reach Earth? And that Beethoven theme tune was ace! At least, I think it was the old Ludwig van! OK, Ike, let's see. Try Starquake, Ghosts 'n' Goblins, Chucky Egg (simple but fun!), Manic Miner (not Jet Set Willy as it's impossible!), Lords of Midnight (I don't normally get into RPGs but I make an exception here), Sabre Wulf, and Attic Attack to name but a few. Oh, and for heaven's sake, Ike, emus JUST DON'T CUT IT. I'm a purist retro wanker so I've honestly never touched one!

Back to the brown countdown!

78: Batman: the Movie (Ocean, 1989).

Sorry to rain on your parade, tomz!

The last countdown item should have read:

77: Batman: the Movie (Ocean, 1989).

To be honest, blade, I've heard of Driller but never played it. Could you describe it for me and anyone else interested?

Well, guys, we've reached number 74 on the countdown so I think that it's time for a recap to prevent any doubling up.

100: Terra Cresta
99: Pac Land
98: Rampage
97: California Games
96: Rolling Thunder
95: DRELBS
94: Wizard of Wor
93: Zamara
92: Cybernoid: the Fighting Machine
91: Anarchy
90: Draconus
89: Head Over Heals
88: Space Taxi
87: The Sacred Armour of Antiriad
86: Uridium
85: Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future
84: Snare
83: Spindizzy AND Hard 'n' Heavy (don't ask!)
82: Savage
81: Montezuma's Revenge
80: Arkanoid II: Revenge of Doh
79: Gyruss
78: Dropzone
77: Batman: the Movie
76: Cauldron II: the Pumpkin Strikes Back
75: Driller
74: Thrust

Right, there you have it. We should start counting down some really good stuff from here on in! I'm sure that there's seventy-three fantastic C64 games out there!

OK, who's got number seventy-three?

As Ike pointed out, yes its a filled vector 3D game ( which means "really really" slow frame updates, but that didn't stop me ..lol ) where you are trapped on a moon called Mitral. You need to mine the moon and release pockets of gas for your survival..etc.. Its a been a long time so i found it on Wikipedia Smile
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driller_(game)

One of the BIGGEST draw cards for me though for this game back then was its MUSIC !!. It was eerie, edgy, rugged, emotional, and impending!, and it drew you completely into the game!. Matt Gray produced the music, and i urge anyone here to please bring a copy it if with them if they have it !?.. I sold my Cassette version as well as my original C64 ( i have another C64 here ) to afford an Amiga 500 in 1990.

Damn that Commodore machines had some BRILLIANT games!. The C64 was an absolute gem, and i love my memories from it.
