97: Space Invaders (2600).

IMO, one of the best versions for a home system. Better than the 8-bit computer version. In many ways even better than the arcade version.

96: Super Breakout (2600).

Despite its simplicity, one of the best games done on the 2600. And again, better than the version they did for the 8-bit computer.

Great! Another Top 100! I'll enter the fray at 95 (and no fair hogging TWO spots, Rybags!) Wink

95: Choplifter (Atari 7800)

No where near as good as the SMS version which is why I've placed it so low in the charts but a fine game none-the-less.

Hey, where is everyone? I'll just have to continue this myself!

92: Outlaw (Atari, 1978) Atari 2600.

Great two-player fun!

I agree! PONG is what brought gaming to the general household and early arcades. Too many people forget this. My first console was a Sheen pong based system

All well and good, tomz, but Pong can get a little boring after a while and whilst it is a seminal game, we are counting down the greatest Atari games. I'm assuming you're referring to Atari's first console (or coin-op)but for the best Pong action, you can't go past,

89: Video Olympics (Atari, 1978) Atari 2600
Not only does it include Pong but a whole plethora of Pong-related games. Volleyball, anyone? ACE FUN!

I'm in no way referring to you here, tomz, but I believe that there are too many in the retro scene who judge a game on its "oldness" or "retroness", little realising that there were as many crap games back then as there are now, maybe more in fact! Don't get me wrong, everyone, I love our hobby but a game should always be judged on its own merits, rather than its "retroness". I believe that Pong is a good example. When all's said and done, it's pretty boring! At least Video Olympics gives it a bit of variety.

I hope I don't get hung, drawn and quartered for my previous comment! By the way, mixojoe, I don't think that anyone forgets the impact that Pong had on our hobby! It really did start the ball rolling!
